Introduction to the Developmental Profiles
The purpose of this section is to provide illustrations of the kind of developmental profile that can be presented on each individual of the study. These profiles cannot be considered finished products. Rather they are introductions to the individuals represented here.

Seven profiles are presented. Each are sufficiently different to portray a wide range of complex personal issues which will be analysed in the following 'Analytic profiles'. The object of these profiles is to show that young people are able to provide in-depth accounts of their lives. These accounts can be further elaborated and deepened over time. They show that their everyday lives cannot be treated homogeneously. There are complex and subtle variations of cultural and sub-cultural allegiences. In each, alcohol plays some role whether minor or major.
